Özet
Aim: Hashimoto's thyroiditis is worldwide the most frequent autoimmune thyroiditis. Mean platelet volume refers the size of platelets and considered as markers of production rate and platelet activation, and associated with inflammation. We aimed to observe mean platelet volume values of subjects with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and compare with healthy population in this restropective analyse. Methods: A. total of 162 subjects were enrolled into the study: 97 patients with Hashimato's Thyroiditis and 65 subjects as healthy controls. We recorded white blood cell count, haemoglobin, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, platelet count, mean platelet Volume and platelet distribution width values, of all the participants. Results: Mean platelet volume of Hashimoto's thyroiditis group (89 [6.7-11]) Was lower than that of the control group (93 [7.7-12.4]). The difference reached the level of statistically significance (p=0.018). Conclusions: Decreased mean platelet volume should be associated with Hashimoto's disease. Evaluation of mean platelet volume maybe helpful in diagnosis of the disease; however prospective studies with larger cohort are needed to confirm our results.
