Özet

The aim of the present experiment was to determine the effects of a dietary L-carnitine supplementation on haematological parameters in broiler chickens according to the energy level of the ration. Eighty one day old Ross 308 broiler chickens were equally divided into 4 groups (n = 20). Birds were fed with energy-depressed diets (groups I and II) or with normal energy diets (groups III and IV) supplemented with L-carnitine (100 mg/kg of food) (groups II and IV) or not (groups I and III). Red blood cell (RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) Counts. numeration of leukocyte types, packed cell volume (PCV) and haemoglobin concentrations were determined by haemocytometric methods on blood samples collected on last day of the 6 week trial period., and mean globular Volumes (MGV) and mean corpuscular haernoglobin Concentrations (MCHC) were calculated. After slaughter, heterophils or eosinophilic staining cells (ESC) were counted in lymphoid organs (thymus, spleen, caecal tonsil and bursa Fabricius). The L-carnitine treatment has induced significant increases of the RBC, WBC, heterophile and lymphocyte counts, of haemoglobin concentrations, PCV and MCHC compared to the respective controls whereas tissue ESC counts were significantly towered in the spleen in the 2 supplemented groups and also in thymus medulla only when chickens received low energy diets (group II). Moreover. a correct dietary energy level has also improved erythropoiesis (increase of RBC counts) at a lesser extend, and diminished the inflammatory reaction in lymphoid organs (decrease of the tissue ESC counts). These results Suggest that the dietary L-carnitine supplementation positively regulates erythropoiesis and inflammatory and immune cells and may restore them when the dietary energy supply is weakly depressed.
