Özet
In pursuit of determining the pulp yield from fiber characteristics an approach was taken to establish a relationship between the carbohydrate composition of various pulps and the yield. The monosaccharide content was quantified directly with recently developed high resolution proton NMR-spectroscopic analyses of acid pulp hydrolysates. By integrating the anomeric protons arising from each sugar type the relative concentration of wood monosaccharides can be resolved rapidly without further separation or derivatization. These data helped detail the yield differences among various alkaline pulping methods for pine and maple. Glucose content enabled the best yield prediction. The polysulfide and the kraft methods showed similar cellulose yields indicating that the polysulfide method retained more glucomannans. The fungal pretreatment in biokraft lowered the content of hexosans, including cellulose.
