Özet
Metaphor can be defined as characterization of a phenomenon in familiar terms. Metaphor researches were used in training studies especially. In our study we aim to get information about the embryology phenomenon of medical students, and to determine the influencing factors of this phenomenon with their reasons. Our study was composed of participation of 100 students from Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of Medicine Class II grader in the 2014- 2015 academic year. The result of evaluating the questionnaires 100 (30 male, 70 female) students’ metaphors were taken into account. The data were evaluated according to age, gender, the place where they stay during the educational life and the reason for selecting the faculty of medicine. In order to detect metaphors the forms were given to the students as “Embryology is similar/like ................…, because ……………” and requested to complete the sentence with the reasons. The number and percentage of produced metaphors were evaluated. The results of the questionnaire show that there are 75 metaphors used by the students and the metaphors are classified into 8 different categories after the evaluation. According to the findings of the study, the mostly produced metaphors were life, seed, miracle, etc. Consequently, metaphors can be used as a powerful research tool in the understanding and explanation of personal perceptions of embryology education among the students of medicine faculty. Therefore, metaphors help us to develop of educational methods and devices for embryology lessons. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology.
