Özet

• Background: Hyperuricemia is a common finding in elderly people and more attention should be paid to the close relationship between hyperuricemia and hyperlipidemia. • Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between serum uric acid and lipid profile in elderly subjects. • Material and Methods: This study was performed to compare serum lipid levels in elderly normouricemic subjects (controls, n=48, 25 male, 71.75±5.00 years) and in elderly hyperuricemic subjects (n= 42, 18 male, 72.19±5.08 years). • Results: Serum total cholesterol (respectively, 202±40 mg/dl, 173±36 mg/dl, p=0.0001), triglycerides (respectively, 130±51 mg/dl, 100±38 mg/dl, p=0.002) and LDL-cholesterol levels (respectively, 137±32 mg/dl, 106±26 mg/dl, p=0.001), were significantly higher and HDL-cholesterol level(respectively, 39±9 mg/dl, 46±13 mg/dl, p=0.008), was significantly lower in elderly subjects with hyperuricemia compared to normouricemic group. • Conclusion: Hyperuricemia is associated with hyperlipidemia in elderly patients.
