Öğe Examining the relationship between nurses' fear of COVID-19 and nursing care behavior(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2024) Ceylan, Burcu; Aktan, Gül Güneş; Palaz, Simge CoşkunObjectives: It is clear that COVID-19, and especially its highly infectious nature, has caused fear, anxiety, and worry for nurses performing active duty during the pandemic. It has thus been a matter of interest to investigate into how care behaviors have been affected by the various emotions that continue to be felt in this period. This study aimed to examine the impact of nurses' fear of COVID-19 on their nursing care behavior during the pandemic. Methods: The data of this descriptive and cross-sectional designed study were collected from 450 nurses providing one-on-one care (at university, public, or private hospital) to COVID-19 patients from January to March 2021 and who had consented to participate in the study. A Personal Data Form, the Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 (CBI-24), and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale were used in the data collection. Results: The overall mean score of the nurses on the Caring Behaviors Inventory was 5.08 +/- 0.59. An examination of the subscales showed that the nurses' highest scores were in the knowledge and skills subscale, whereas they scored the lowest in the loyalty subscale. The overall mean score of the nurses on the Fear of COVID-19 Scale was 18.52 +/- 5.43. A negative, significant, and very weak relationship was found between the nurses' levels of fear of coronavirus and their care behaviors (r = -0.107, P < 0.05). Conclusions: Data show that nurses providing care to patients during the COVID-19 pandemic feared COVID-19, that their care behaviors were generally at a good level, and that the care behaviors of nurses with a high degree of fear of COVID-19 were negatively and significantly impacted.Öğe YouTube videos are a moderately comprehensive, reliable, and quality option to learn about multiple sclerosis and sexuality(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Uslu, Esra; Kendırkiran, Gülcan; Yıldırım, NazmiyeObjectives: This study aimed to evaluate the performance, comprehensiveness, reliability, and quality of English-language YouTube videos addressing the subject of multiple sclerosis and sexuality. Methods: In August 2023, a search was conducted on a computer using the keywords multiple sclerosis and sexuality, multiple sclerosis and sexual health, multiple sclerosis and sexual health problems, and multiple sclerosis and sexual dysfunction for this descriptive study. According to predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 38 videos that met the research purpose were examined. The related URLs were recorded. For each video, the following information was collected: content producers, performance with YouTube statistics, comprehensiveness with a form developed by researchers, reliability with Singh's Reliability Evaluation Form, and quality with Global Quality Scale. Two researchers independently evaluated the videos. Results: Eighty-nine and a half percent of the videos contained information presented by professionals. The average number of views was 2699.132 +/- 3382.848, the comprehensiveness score was 4.2 +/- 1.711, the reliability score was 3.184 +/- 1.182, and the quality score was 3.421 +/- 1.2. Nearly half (42.2%) contained good and useful information for viewers, and half (50%) had high video quality. The reliability and quality scores of videos containing each item in terms of comprehensiveness were higher compared to videos that did not include that item (p < 0.05). In addition, the videos with higher comprehensiveness scores had higher quality and reliability scores (p < 0.001). Conclusion:These results underscore the constrained performance attributes of YouTube videos addressing multiple sclerosis and sexuality, with their content exhibiting a moderate level of comprehensiveness, reliability, and quality. These results may provide a basis for increasing the effectiveness of YouTube videos on multiple sclerosis and sexuality.Öğe Factors affecting experiences of intensive care patients in Turkey: Patient outcomes in critical care setting(2013) Demir, Yurdanur; Korhan, Esra Akın ; Eser, İsmet; Khorshid, LeylaObjectives: To determine the factors affecting a patient's intensive care experience. Conclusions: Interventions are needed to make the experiences of patients in intensive care more positive.Öğe Prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome in adolescents in Turkey: Effects of gender, lifestyle and psychological factors(Turkish National Pediatric Society, 2014) Baysoy, Gökhan; Baysoy, Nüket Güler; Kesicioğlu, Aynur; Akın, Demet; Dündar, Tuğba; Uyan, Ayten PamukçuScarce data exist concerning the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome in adolescence. Changes in lifestyle, presence of stressors and psychological vulnerability during this stage of life place adolescents in the risk group for irritable bowel syndrome. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome in adolescents who are about to begin their university studies and to identify lifestyle and psychological factors related to irritable bowel syndrome. All students newly enrolled at Abant Izzet Baysal University during the 2005-2006 academic year were recruited. Questionnaires including the Rome II questionnaire, the Beck Depression Inventory and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were sent to the addresses of the eligible students before matriculation to the university. A total of 2217 students completed the questionnaires, of which 2038 (91.9%) were regarded as valid. Irritable bowel syndrome prevalence was 10.8% and was significantly higher in females than in males (14.0% vs. 7.1%, p<0.001). In logistic regression analyses, gender (OR=2.48, 95% CI=1.68-3.66) and depression (OR=1.08, 95% CI=1.04-1.12) were significantly linked to irritable bowel syndrome. The prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome in this adolescent population is similar to that reported in other studies. The association of irritable bowel syndrome with depression should guide preventive and therapeutic efforts for this specific age group. © 2015 Turkish Journal of Pediatrics. The sizes, position and symmetry of normal auricle are used for different purposes in different disciplines. A deformation in the auricle of neonates and its size or location on the face may indicate a possible anomaly. The aim of this study is to investigate the normal sizes, anomaly types, anomaly rates and the relationship between hearing screening test results and auricular anomaly of the neonatal auricle. The length, width, angle, and distance measurements of the auricle were made in neonates (n = 550). Anomaly types of auricle were observed. Goniometer was used to measure angles; digital caliper and ruler were used to measure lengths. Anomalies were detected by the method of observation. In the morphometric data of the neonatal auricle, differences were determined in length and width values in terms of gender. Various types of anomalies were observed in the right ear of 96 participants and in the left ear of 103 participants. Normal auricle size, position and symmetry are important for surgical reconstructions, hearing aid design, producing data banks on gender, age and ethnicity, and providing reference information for multiple diagnostic and forensic procedures. Recognition and early detection of auricular anomalies play an essential role in clinical diagnosis and their correction with special devices.Öğe Resources, stressors and coping strategies of nurses caring for patients with coronavirus from the perspective of Conservation of Resources Theory: A qualitative study(Kare Publishing, 2022) Yıldırım, Nazmiye; Bulut, MelisaObjectives: To explore the resources, stress factors and coping strategies of nurses, who provide direct care to patients with coronavirus disease. Methods: In this qualitative study, 20 registered nurses were interviewed, who have been working in the pandemic hospitals located in different parts of Turkey for at least two weeks. In-depth interviews were carried out individually and online. Interview data were analyzed with thematic analysis from the perspective of the Conservation of Resources Theory (COR). Results: Three themes emerged from the analysis of the data according to the COR theory. First theme, resources are required to adapt to changing processes and to be motivated to maintain service. Nurses' personal resources were helping patients, professional responsibility, spirituality, hope and conscience. Money, knowledge, and experience were energy resources while being in a well-functioning working team, having a similar fate, and social support were condition resources and the personal protective equipment formed object resources. Second theme, perceived threats to their resources are the main stressors. The final theme is that strategies for coping with identified stressors are reactive rather than proactive. Conclusion: This study contributed to the resources being noticed that nurses had and used during the pandemic, as well as into understanding which resources were under threat and a critical component of the stress process. The findings of the study can be used by psychiatric consultation-liaison nurses to strengthen their resources and support clinical nurses to effectively cope with the negative effects and consequences of the pandemic.Öğe Comparison of the effects of surgical smoke on the air quality and on the physical symptoms of operating room staff(SAGE Publications Inc, 2023) Soysal, Ganime Esra; İlçe, Arzu; Lakestani, Sanaz; Şit, Mustafa; Avcıoğlu, FatmaBackground Surgical smoke can be a hazard because e it contains toxic gases with carcinogenic effects that may threaten health. This study aims to determine the effect of surgical smoke containing toxic chemicals on indoor air quality and examine employees' physical symptoms in the operating room. Method The study was conducted in the operating room between June 2020 and July 2020. In the study, 45 air samples were taken before, during, and after surgery using the active sampling method. Nineteen employees working in the operating room were asked about their physical complaints and their throat cultures were taken before and after surgery. These results were compared with those of the employees working in internal units. Results The Total Volatile Organic Compounds value at the time of surgery was significantly higher (p <= 0.05). Benzene concentrations remained constantly high (p <= 0.05) throughout the surgery, exceeding the limit values. Other VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) were significantly higher during surgery and remained below the limit values (p <= 0.05). When compared in terms of open and laparoscopic surgery, no difference between VOC concentrations was observed (p <= 0.05). The physical symptoms of the surgical team increased during the operation, and they experienced more complaints of tearing, burning in the eyes, hair odor, nausea, and cough than those working in the internal units (e.g., internal medicine, dermatology; (p <= 0.05). Conclusions Surgical smoke was an important contaminant for indoor air quality in the operating room.Öğe Protective effects of probiotic-rich intermittent fasting on isoproterenol-ınduced myocardial damage in rats; Electrocardiographic and biochemical evaluation(Wiley, 2022) Suveren, EylemProtective Effects of Probiotic-rich Intermittent Fasting on Isoproterenol-Induced Myocardial Damage in Rats; Electrocardiographic and Biochemical EvaluationÖğe Effect of the management in nursing course on students' time management and career planning attitudes: A single-group pre-test post-test study(Churchill Livingstone, 2023) Çingöl, Nurhan; Karakaş, MehmetAim: This study aimed to determine the effect of the Management in Nursing course on the time management and career planning attitudes of nursing students. Background: University education is important for young people to develop their time management skills, plan their careers, and implement these plans.
