Özet
Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, erkek öğrenci hemşirelerin meslek seçimini etkileyen faktörlerin bazı değişkenler açısından incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Betimsel tarama modelinin kullanıldığı bu çalışmanın evrenini bir sağlık yüksekokulunda öğrenim gören 116 erkek öğrenci hemşire oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada evrenin tamamı örneklem kapsamına alınmış olup çalışmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 101 öğrenciden elde edilen veriler değerlendirmeye alınmıştır. Verilerinin toplanmasında kişisel bilgi formu ve Hemşirelikte Meslek Seçimi Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Ölçek toplam 17 maddeden, mesleki uygunluk ve yaşamsal nedenler olmak üzere iki alt boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Ölçek toplam puanı 0-100 arasında değişim göstermektedir. Araştırma verilerinin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, Kruskal-Wallis testi ve Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Erkek öğrencilerin meslek seçiminde mesleki uygunluk faktöründen yaşamsal nedenlere göre daha fazla etkilendikleri belirlenmiştir. Erkek öğrenci hemşirelerin meslek seçimini etkileyen faktörlerin anne, baba eğitimi ve aile gelir düzeyine göre farklılık göstermediği bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin meslek seçerkenki hemşirelik algısına göre ise mesleki uygunluk ve yaşamsal nedenler alt boyutları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Öğrencilerin mesleki uygunluk ve yaşamsal nedenlere ilişkin puan ortalamaları ortalamanın üzerinde belirlenmiştir. Mesleğe ilişkin olumlu algıya sahip olan öğrenciler mesleki uygunluğun meslek seçiminde etkili olduğunu düşünürken, mesleğe ilişkin olumsuz algısı olan öğrenciler yaşamsal nedenleri meslek seçiminde önemli bir faktör olarak görmektedirler.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the factors affecting the choice of profession in male students of nursing department. Material and Methods: The study was descriptive in design. The universe of this descriptive study was composed of 116 male nursing students in the health college of a university. All of the universe was included in the sample and data which were obtained from 101 students who participated voluntarily in the research were evaluated. The research data were collected using the personal information form and the profession choice scale in nursing. The scale consisted of 17 items and two sub-dimensions for "professional congruency" and "vital causes". A total score from 0 to 100%was possible for this questionnaire. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test were used. Results: It was determined that male students were influenced more by professional congruence factors than vital causes. It was found that the opinions of the male student nurses regarding the factors affecting the choice of profession did not differ according to the level of parental education and family income. According to nursing perception affecting professional choice of the students, there was a significant difference between the professional congruence factors and the vital causes sub-dimensions. Conclusion: The scores of professional congruence and vital causes of the students were identified as above average. While students who had positive perception about profession thought that professional congruence was effective in choosing a profession, students with a negative perception of profession viewed vital causes as an important factor in choosing a profession
