To that end, it is necessary to develop students’ comprehension, identification of important information, note taking summarizing skills. In this study, selective listening skills were taught to students to improve their note taking and summarizing techniques. The study was designed as an in-class action research study and was conducted with 23 5th grade bilingual students. The students’ selective listening skills of note taking important information and summarizing were developed by using listening texts in classes for 8 weeks. At the end of the study, it was determined that the students’ selective listening skills improved and that no regression was observed in those skills even 4 weeks after the end of the study. In addition, the students stated that they could easily identify important information in the listening process after this practice and that they understood listening texts more. Other subject teachers who taught the same sections stated that after this study the students were more careful in their classes and that there was improvement in their speed of learning and interest compared to their peers in the other sections.
