dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to examine, Science and Art Centers (SARC) music teachers’ views on the practices carried out to diagnose musical talent before and since 2018, and how the effects of these practices were perceived by teachers from a comparative perspective. In the study, a descriptive phenomenological design was used and 30 SARC teachers, who were selected through the criterion sampling method, constituted the sample of the study. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and an interview form developed by the researchers. Based on the principles of consistency, simplicity, and inclusiveness, a series of content analyses were conducted, and the results of the study were interpreted within the scope of the themes and their categories derived from the results of these analyses. The results showed that teachers’views on the diagnostic practices carried out before and since 2018 could be defined by the themes and categories that consisted of student characteristics, weaknesses and strengths of these practices, and their suggestions on how to strengthen these weaknesses, in addition to the themes and categories that included their overall views. The results also showed that teachers’views regarding the effects of the diagnostic practices carried out before and since 2018 on their teaching processes could be described by the themes and categories that contained students’ demands and their levels of satisfaction, along with the themes and categories that consisted of teaching strategies, methods, techniques, materials, and activities.
