dc.description.abstractAmaç: Pterjium olgularında gözyaşı fonksiyon bozukluklarını belirlemek. Yöntem: Kliniğimize başvuran 24 hastanın 33 pterjiumlu gözü Schirmer I testi, korneal film yıkılma zamanı (KFYZ) ve gözyaşı menisküs yüksekliği açısından değerlendirilmiş, tek taraflı olgularda diğer gözler ile ve yaş ve cinsiyet yönlerinden uygunluk gösteren 20 kişinin 40 gözü ile ayrı ayrı karşılaştırılmıştır. Varyans analizi ve parametrik testlerle sonuçlar yorumlanmıştır. Sonuçlar: Yaş, cinsiyet ve sistemik durum açısından gruplar arası fark saptanmadı (p=0.24). Ortalama Schirmer I testi pterjiumlu olgularda 10.3±1.8 mm (Ort±SEM) kontrol grubunda ise 18.7±3.1 mm olarak bulundu. (p=0.01) Ortalama KFYZ pterjiumlu olgularda 9.1±1.5 sn (Ort±SEM) kontrol grubunda 10.0±1.3 sn olarak bulundu. (p=0.48) Olguların ve kontrol grubunun %90'ında gözyaşı menisküs yüksekliği 0.1 mm'nin üzerindeydi (p=0.95). Yorum: Pterjiumlu olgularda Schirmer I testinde gözlenen bozukluk, bu olgularda normal populasyona göre total gözyaşı sekresyonunda bir azalma olduğunu düşündürmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractPurpose: To detect tear function abnormalities in patients with pterygium. Methods: 33 eyes of 24 patients with pterygium were evaluated for Schirmer I test, corneal tear film break up time (BUT) and tear meniscus height (TMH); results were compared with the other eyes in unilateral cases and with 40 eyes of 20 age and sex-matched control patients separately. The results were analyzed with analysis of variance and parametric tests. Results: There was no significant difference in age, sex distribution and systemic status of the patients between study and control groups (p=0.24). Mean Schirmer I test value was 10.3±1.8 (Mean±SEM) in patients with pterygium and 18.7±3.1 in control group (p=0.01). Mean BUT was 9.1±1.5 seconds in patients with pterygium and 10.0±1.3 seconds in control group (p=0.48). TMH was more than 0.1 mm in 90% of the cases in both group (p=0.95). Comment: The changes in Schirmer I test in patients with pterygium indicates that these patients have a decreased total tear secretion compared to normal population.en_US
