Öğe Comparison of litter quality, performance, and some welfare parameters of broilers reared on the sepiolite-supplemented paper waste sludge(SPRINGER HEIDELBERG, 2022) Eser, Handan; Onbaşılar, Esin Ebru; Yalçın, Sakine; Ramay, Muhammad Shazaib; Karakan, Tuğba; Güngör, Ömer FarukWaste management is the protection of the environment and the health of the population. Paper waste sludge is produced during paper production and sepiolite is a natural clay mineral. The aim of the study was to investigate the usability of sepiolite-added paper waste sludge as a bedding material in the broiler production. Two hundred eighty-eight 1-day old male broiler chicks were divided into the 6 bedding material groups (wood shavings (control), paper waste sludge, sepiolite, mix of 25% paper waste sludge and 75% sepiolite, mix of 50% paper waste sludge and 50% sepiolite, and mix of 75% paper waste sludge and 25% sepiolite) with 6 replicate pens per group. Litter quality, performance, and some welfare parameters of broilers were assessed during the 6 weeks' period. Body weight at 42 days of age and body weight gain from 0 to 42 days of broilers reared on the wood shavings and mix of 50% paper waste sludge and 50% sepiolite were found higher than those of the sepiolite and paper waste sludge groups. Feed consumption and feed to gain ratio from 0 to 42 days, yields of carcass and carcass parts, percentages of organs and abdominal fat, IgG, percentage of bursa Fabricius, burns of foot pad and breast, litter pH and meat properties of broilers reared on the wood shavings, paper waste sludge, and sepiolite litter groups were not found to be statistically different. Litter moisture was found higher in the paper waste sludge group than that in the sepiolite group at the 42 days of rearing. As a conclusion, usage of mix of 50% paper waste sludge and 50% sepiolite as a litter does not have any negative effects on performance, welfare, and litter quality. This result is important in terms of utilizing a waste product.Öğe Efects of dietary yeast cell wall supplementation on performance, carcass characteristics, antibody production and histopathological changes in broilers(2014) Yalçın, Sakine; Yalçın, Suzan; Eser, Handan; Şahin, Aydın; Yalçın, S. The values of egg breaking strength (p<0.01) and egg shell thickness (p<0.05) were increased, egg yolk cholesterol was decreased (p<0.05) by the usage of 1% sepiolite in the diet. Dietary treatments did not significantly affect egg shape index, egg albumen height, egg albumen index, egg yolk index and egg Haugh unit. Dietary sepiolite at 1% reduced cholesterol and triglyceride in serum (p<0.05) and increased total protein in serum (p<0.01). It was concluded that dietary supplementation of 1% sepiolite was effective feed additive in layer feeding due to the reduction in egg yolk cholesterol and improvement in egg shell quality.Öğe Effects of dietary yeast autolysate (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on performance, carcass and gut characteristics, blood profile, and antibody production to sheep red blood cells in broilers(Oxford Univ Press, 2013) Yalçın, Sakine; Eser, Handan; Yalçın, Suzan S.; Cengiz, Şeyda; Eltan, ÖnderThis study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary yeast autolysate on performance, carcass and gut traits, blood parameters, and humoral immune response of broilers. A total of 175 day-old Ross 308 male broiler chicks were allocated into one control group and 4 treatment groups each containing 5 replicate groups of 7 chicks. A basal diet was supplemented with 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 g/kg of yeast autolysate (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, InteWall) to generate dietary treatments. The experimental period lasted 42 d. Supplemental yeast autolysate improved live weight gain (P < 0.01) and feed conversion (P < 0.001) during the starter period (1 to 21 d). Cumulative FCR was decreased (P < 0.05) during the overall period (1 to 42 d) with 2 and 3 g/kg of yeast autolysate supplementation when compared with the control diet. There were no dietary effects on final live weight, feed intake, excreta pH, excreta moisture, carcass yield, and the relative weight of gizzard, liver, heart, spleen, bursa of Fabricius, and the intestinal weights. Yeast autolysate supplementation decreased relative weight of abdominal fat (P < 0.001) and Escherichia coli count of the digesta (P < 0.01) and increased antibody titers to SRBC (P < 0.001). The pH of jejunal and ileal digesta was decreased at the 2, 3, and 4 g/kg of yeast autolysate supplementation compared with that of birds fed the control diet (P < 0.001). Dietary treatments did not significantly affect blood serum levels of cholesterol, triglyceride, protein, uric acid, aspartate amino transferase, and alanine amino transferase. It was concluded that the dietary supplementation at the level of 2 and 3 g/kg of yeast autolysate was an effective feed additive in broiler feeding because of the increased growth performance, increased immunocompetence, and the reduction of E. coli colonization in the intestine.Öğe Effects of dietary yeast cell wall on performance, egg quality and humoral immune response in laying hens(Ankara Univ Press, 2014) Yalçın, Sakine; Yalçın, Suzan; Onbaşılar, İlyas; Eser, Handan; Şahin, AydinThe objective of this study was to determine the effects of dietary yeast cell wall (YCW) on performance, egg quality, some blood parameters and humoral immune response of laying hens during 26 wks period.
