In Turkey, data on the incidence of thesediseases are insufficient. Our aim in this study is todetermine the incidence, demographics and clinicalcharacteristics associated with diseases of the pem-phigoid group. Methods:We prospectively analysed 295 patientswith pemphigoid who visited dermatology clinics oftertiary referral hospitals in 12 different regions ofTurkey within a year. The diagnosis was based onclinical, histopathological, direct immunofluores-cence (DIF) and serological (multivariant enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay [ELISA], indirectimmunofluorescence and mosaic-based BIOCHIP)examinations. Clinical and demographicfindings, aetiological factors and concomitant diseasesobserved in the patients were recorded. Results:A total of 295 (female/male ratio: 1.7/1)patients with pemphigoid were diagnosed in 1-yearperiod. The overall incidence rate of pemphigoiddiseases was found to be 3.55 cases per million-years. The ratio of pemphigoid group diseases topemphigus group diseases was 1.6. The most com-mon pemphigoid type was bullous pemphigoid (BP,93.2%). The others were epidermolysis bullosaacquisita (3.1%), pemphigoid gestationis (2.4%), lin-ear IgA disease (1%) and mucous membrane pem-phigoid (0.3%). The most common (26.8%) possibletrigger of the bullous pemphigoid was gliptin deriva-tive drugs. The most common concomitant diseaseswith pemphigoid were cardiovascular (27.8%) andneurological diseases (23.7%).Conclusions:This study showed that the increasedfrequency of bullous pemphigoid reversed the pem-phigoid/pemphigus ratio in Turkey. Further studiesare warranted regarding the reasons for this increase.Key words: Bullous pemphigoid, acquired epider-molysis bullosa, benign mucous membrane pem-phigoid, pemphigoid gestationis, incidence study.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessBullous PemphigoidAcquired Epidermolysis BullosaBenign Mucous Membrane PemphigoidPemphigoid GestationisIncidence StudyA multicentre prospective analysis of the incidence of pemphigoid diseases in TurkeyArticle10.1111/ajd.13731624E496E503346429342-s2.0-85116932716Q2WOS:000706544700001Q3
