Son yıllarda çocuklara yönelik olan cinsel istismar konusu gerek çocuklarla çalışan ruh sağlığı profesyonelleri arasında gerekse alan dışında olan herkesin oldukça ilgisini çekmiştir. Medyada da bu sorunun oldukça olumsuz bir şekilde aksettirilmesi bu konuda herkesin bir fikir geliştirmesine yol açmıştır. Araştırmalar bu sorunun tüm kültürlerde ve tüm sosyal sınıflarda görüldüğünden bahsetmektedir. Bundan dolayıdır ki bu sorun evrensel bir sorundur ve daha iyi tanımlanması ve anlaşılması gerekir. Bu çalışmanın amacı da en son araştırma bulguları ışığında cinsel istismar konusunu daha derinlemesine incelemek ve bu konuyla ilgili sorunlara ışık tutmaktır. Önce çocuk cinsel istismarı kavramı tartışılmış ve istismar konusunda önerilen tanımlara yer verilmiştir. Daha sonra cinsel istismarın değişik kültürlerdeki ve ülkemizdeki oranlar incelenmiştir. Konular tartışılırken genellikle yeni olan bulgulara, kavramlara ve daha önce değinilmeyen sorunlara yer verilmeye çalışılmıştır.
The concept of sexual abuse has been a very popular term among mental health professionals and non-professionals. The media covered the term so notoriously that everyone has some idea about this issue. In fact, the history of children sexual traumatization is as old as humankind. Research shows that this problem has been documented in all cultures and social classes, ascertaining that this issue has a universal dimension. Therefore, it needs to be more clearly defined and understood by professionals. The purpose of this literature review is therefore to provide the most current research findings in the area of childhood sexual abuse. First, definition of sexual abuse was discussed with respect to controversies of the defining concepts. Then, recent prevalence and incidence rates in Turkey and other countries are presented. More detailed attention was given to the concerns and problems that had not been dealt with in previous the literature.
