Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı; ilköğretim 6-8. sınıf öğrencilerinin istatistik ve olasılık öğrenme alanındaki zorlandıkları kavramları belirlemek ve bunların nedenlerini saptamaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, anlama güçlüklerini belirlemek üzere bir anket geliştirilmiş ve anket sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerle yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Araştırmada nitel ve nicel olmak üzere iki aşamalı bir araştırma deseni kullanıldığı için karma modelli yöntemden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma Bolu ilindeki merkeze bağlı farklı düzeydeki 8 ilköğretim okulunda öğretimine devam eden ve bir dershanede başarı seviyelerine göre derecelendirilmiş sınıflarda öğrenim görmekte olan, ilköğretim 6-8.sınıf öğrencilerine (418 öğrenci) uygulanmıştır. Zorluk indeksi sonuçlarına göre tespit edilen kesme noktası %15 ve üzeri olarak belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin zorlandıkları kavramlar listelenmiştir. Bu kavramlarda neden zorlanıldıklarını anlamak adına yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Öğrenci görüşlerine göre; zorlanmalarının nedeni olarak ilgili kavramları sınıf düzeyi arttıkça unutma, ele alınan konuyla ilgili kavramları diğer kavramlarla ilişkilendirememe, ezberleyerek öğrenme sonucu yorum yapamama, kavramlara doğru anlamlar yükleyememe ve yeteri kadar kavramları somut deneyimlere dayanarak öğrenmemeleri sonucuna varılmıştır.
The purpose of this study is to determine the concepts and subjects that 6 - 8th grade mathematics students have difficulty in the area of learning statistics and probability and to identify the reasons of the difficulty behind comprehending them. To this end, a questionnaire was developed to detect these difficulties and the semi-constructed interviews were conducted with students. Since a two- step research design as quantitative and qualitative was used, a mixed model method was practiced. The study was applied to the 6-8th grader (total of 418) who were randomly selected from various school located in Bolu city center. The cut-off point determined according to the results of difficulty index was set at 15% and above. The concepts and subjects which the participants have difficulty in understanding were listed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to identify reasons of difficulty behind understanding them. Following results were identified as causes of having difficulty in learning; forgetting the relevant concepts as the class level increases, inability in associating the relevant concepts with the other ones, incompetency in commenting due to learning by rote, insufficiency in construing the concepts truly, and insufficient learning of the concepts based on concrete experiences.
