Öğe Influence of manganese adition on mechanical properties of Fe-Cu-C steels(2007) Uygur, IlyasIn this study, Fe-Cu-Mn-C based steels were produced in different amounts of Cu, C and ferromangan addition by powder metallurgy (PM) method. The mixed powders were pressed at various pressures and sintered at 1120 °C in ammonia atmosphere for 30 minutes. The effect of pressure on porosity and tensile strenght; the addition of Cu, C and Mn on the hardness, fracture toughness, and tensile strength were investigated. An increase in compaction pressure caused decrease on porosity amounts, hence resulted in increased tensile strength. Tensile strength also increased with increased amounts of Cu, C and Mn additions. Furthermore, the hardness values of Fe-Cu-Mn-C PM steel specimens increased with the existence of these elements. Fracture toughness values were decreased depending on hardness and tensile strength of the specimens.Öğe An Investigation of Reinforced Concerete Buildings Through Reconstruction Process in Duzce(Gazi Univ, 2006) Uygur, IlyasAugust, 17 and November, 12 1999 earthquakes were one of the most serious disasters of this century and Dtizce has been struck by these two major earthquakes. After the earthquakes some studies shown that collapsed or damaged structures were high buildings. Damage situation of these buildings were determined by the Ministry of Public Work and Settlements staff. Buildings were classified light, medium, and heavy. They were maintained and reconstructed. In this study, concrete and steel samples from collapsed and damaged buildings were collected and investigated their engineering behaviors. Besides this, the recent concrete and steel samples which would be used in new buildings were also collected and tested. The effects of corrosion on engineering properties were also considered and compared with other groups of the mild steel. One year atmospheric pollution caused corrosion which decreases the engineering properties of this materials, hence they were out of standard. Also some tests were carried out to the effect of high deformation speed on the engineering properties. In high speed tensile test; reinforcement steel bars have suddenly strain hardened and this caused brittle fractures. The present study shown that the mild steel which had been used in the previous buildings were cold and hard rolled and they were produced in the local workshops. These were far from the standards. The reinforced bars used in the recent buildings have showed perfect mechanical behaviors within the standards. Parallel to the results of old mild steel (%75), concrete in old buildings have also shown nearly 60% out of standard.Öğe AN INVESTIGATION OF WAVE ENERGY POTENTIAL IN WESTERN BLACK SEA REGION(Pamukkale Univ, 2006) Uygur, Ilyas; Demirci, Recep; Saruhan, Hamit; Ozkan, Arif; Belenli, IbrahimThe main energy sources which are natural, clean, environmentally friendly, and renewable are wind power, solar energy, biomass energy, hydro energy, and wave energy. The wave energy has no cost except for the first investment and maintenance. There is also no cost for input energy. Besides these, it has no pollution effect on the environment, it is cheap and there is a huge potential all around the world. Wave energy is a good opportunity to solve the energy problem for Turkey which is surrounded by seas. Concerning all these facts, it has been conducted some studies which included five years of observation in the Western Black Sea Region (Akcakoca). The wave energy potential has also been calculated. From this sutdy results, it can be concluded that the wave energy potential of this region is inefficient. It is believed that by the improvement of the new energy converter devices in future, this low potential can be used more efficiently and as a result this study might be used as a basis for the future researches.
