Öğe Congenital unilateral intranasal membranous septa with choanal atresia dividing the nasal cavity into two blind pouch: A case report(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2010) Yilmaz, Suleyman; Guclu, Ender; Karali, Elif; Subasi, BugraCongenital nasal anomalies are rare disorders. An 11-year-old girl presented to our clinic with a left sided nasal obstruction and chronic nasal discharge since birth. Clinical evaluation revealed membranous septa which divided the left nasal cavity into two blind pouch and left sided choanal atresia with alar cartilage asymmetry. This congenital anomaly was not defined in the English literature. The membranous septa in the left nasal cavity were excised, alar reconstruction were performed and the choanal atresia were repaired by a transnasal endoscopic approach. In this article we reported a case of membranous septa which divided the left nasal cavity into two blind pouch associated with unilateral choanal atresia and alar cartilage asymmetry. Also the nasal anomalies and associated disorders in the literature were reviewed. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.Öğe The effects of meteorological factors and air pollution on prognosis of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss(2020) Karali, Elif; Güneş, AkifAim: To evaluate the effect of air pollution parameters and meteorological factors on the prognosisof idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL).Methods: 40 patients diagnosed with ISSNHL who were treated in our clinic between 2015 and 2018were examined retrospectively. Meteorological data including average temperature (Tmean), maximumand minimum temperature (Tmax and Tmin), relative humidity, and air pollution parameters includingsulfur dioxide (SO2) and particulate matter (PM 10). Data of 10 days prior to the disease and 14 daysafter the treatment were analyzed.Results: When the distribution of patients according to the seasons were examined, it was found that12 (30%) of the patients were seen in autumn, 11 (27.5%) in spring, 9 (22.5%) in winter, and 8 (20%)in summer. When the Tmax, Tmin, Tmean values obtained as of the initiation of the treatment werecompared, it was found that the values of the group without recovery were significantly lower.Relative humidity values were significantly lower in the group without recovery in pre-treatment andpost-treatment measurements. No significant difference was found between the recovery groups inSO2 and PM10 values in pre-treatment and post-treatment measurements.Conclusion: It was observed that relative humidity, Tmax, Tmin, Tmean values may affect prognosis inISSNHL patients in our study. In addition, SO2 and PM10 were not associated with ISSNHL recoveryrates. Our study is the first in the literature in terms of evaluating the relationship between air pollutionparameters and ISSNHL prognosis.Öğe Investigation of adult patients with tonsillectomy in terms of complication development, comorbidity ratios and seasonal distribution(2022) Sebit, Tuğberk; Karali, Elif; Akin, IsaObjective: This study aimed to evaluate the postoperative bleeding status of the patients who underwent tonsillectomy over 18 years old. It evaluated the reasons for tonsillectomy, additional diseases, and the season in which tonsillectomy was performed. Material and Methods: One hundred and fifty patients aged 18 years and over who underwent tonsillectomy in the ear, nose, and throat clinic of a tertiary hospital were included in our study. The age, gender, additional disease, post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage (Post-TH), and the season in which tonsillectomy was performed were examined. Results: A total of 150 patients, 50 females (33.3%) and 100 males (66.7%), were included in our study. The mean age of the patients was 32,49±12,20 years. Bleeding was observed in the postoperative period in 12 patients (8%), except for the first 24 hours postoperatively. It was determined that the most frequent complaint of bleeding in the postoperative period was on the 4th day. It was observed that 15 (10%) patients had an additional disease. A total of 35 (23.3%) patients underwent tonsillectomy due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) and 115 (76.7%) patients for recurrent tonsillitis. Tonsillectomy was performed in the spring season for 31 patients (20.7%), winter for 40 patients (26.7%), autumn for 39 patients (26%), and summer for 40 patients (26.7%). No statistical difference between seasonal differences and the tonsillectomies performed was found (p> 0.05). There was no statistical difference between tonsillectomy and the presence or absence of additional diseases (p> 0.05). Conclusions: We concluded that the presence of comorbidity and seasonal differences did not affect Post-TH in adult tonsillectomy patients.
