MECHANISMS OF THE TRANSFORMATION OF TURKISH AGRICULTURE IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE 1980-2019 AGRICULTURAL CENSUSES

After 1980, the agricultural sector was restructured by international institutions and subjected to a major transformation. During this period, pro-corporatization policies imposed by international institutions and transnational corporations targeted small producers by promoting commodification in rural areas. The pro-corporatization policies imposed since the 1980s were tried to be achieved through new mechanisms such as liberalization in agriculture, the Agricultural Law, the Seed Law and contract product ion. With the policies implemented through these mechanisms, many small producers have been disposed of and the remaining producers have turned into proletarians working in their own fields or guards of their own fields through contract production relations.This study attempts to reveal the mechanisms through which capitalist relations of production are realized in agriculture by examining the changes in the number of holdings and land size, as well as data on land disposition patterns in the 1980-2019 period. © 2024, Yerel Yonetim Arastirma Yardim ve Egitim Dernegi.
