The correlation between neuropathic pain incidence and vitamin D levels in patients with chronic low back pain
(2019) Ay, Bilgehan Kolutek; Berk, Ejder; Demirel, Adnan; Nancitarhan, Vedat
Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between neuropathic pain incidence and vitamin D levels in chronicmechanical low back pain.Material and Methods: Sixty patients (36 females, 24 males) with chronic mechanical low back pain (CMLBP) were included in thestudy. Leeds Assessment Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs Scale (LANSS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Visual AnalogueScale (VAS) were applied to the patients. Patient vitamin D levels were measured. Results: It was determined that the neuropathic low back pain incidence was 0.20. No statistically significant difference wasdetermined between the neuropathic pain incidence in the group with subnormal vitamin D values and the group with normal vitaminD values (p = 0.292). The incidence of neuropathic pain was higher in the group with subnormal vitamin D levels when compared tothe group with normal vitamin D values. Conclusion: It was demonstrated that neuropathic low back pain was more frequent among CMLBP patients with subnormal vitaminD values when compared to patients with normal vitamin D levels, albeit not statistically significantly. Vitamin D deficiency shouldbe reviewed in the evaluation of CMLBP, neuropathic component of which was not well defined, and its treatment and managementrequires a multidisciplinary approach, and vitamin D treatment should be considered when necessary

(Springer, 2023) Yakşi, Elif; Bahadır, Elif Selim; Yaşar, Mustafa Fatih; Alışık, Tuğba; Kurul, Ramazan; Demirel, Adnan
AimThis study aims to investigate the effects of robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) frequency on walking, functional recovery, QoL and mood.MethodsSixty patients aged 50-75, diagnosed with post-stroke hemiplegia were entered into the retrospective analysis. Participants who scored maximum 3 on the Modified Rankin Scale and were diagnosed with moderate stroke according to The NIH Stroke Scale were included in the study. The participants in group 1 (G1) received only conventional treatment (CT), in group 2 (G2) participants received one session of RAGT per week in addition to the CT program, and group 3 (G3) received two sessions of RAGT per week in addition to the CT program. 6-min walk test (6-MWT), Barthel Index (BI), Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale (SSQoL), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were recorded.ResultsMedian change in SSQoL of G3 was significantly higher from median change of G1 (p < 0.05), and median change in BDI of G3 was significantly lower than median change of G1 (p < 0.05). Median change in BDI of G3 was also significantly lower from change of G2 (p < 0.05).ConclusionTwo weekly sessions of RAGT in addition to CT exhibit positive effects on QoL and mood but no additional contribution to functional status.

Investigation of the effect of using Maraşpowder (Nicotiana Rustica) on arterial stiffness by photoplethysmography
    (2022) Demirel, Adnan; Berk, Ejder
Aim: To evaluate atherosclerosis in Maraşpowder (MP) smokers by measuring pulse wave velocity (PWV) \rusing photoplethysmography.\rMethod: This study was carried out by forming two groups: MP smokers and a healthy control group. All \rparticipants underwent PWV using the photoplethysmography method. Student’s t-test, receiver operating \rcharacteristic curve, and regression analysis were performed on age and PWV data to assess arterial stiffness.\rResults: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of age, but the PWV \rvalues of the MP group were statistically significantly higher than those of the control group. The sensitivity \rand predictability of the cut-off value predicting MP smokers was quite high (100%). A logistic regression \ranalysis to determine the correlation of variables did not yield significant results.\rConclusion: As is the case with cigarette use, the use of MP negatively affects cardiovascular health. It is \rimportant to develop policies and strategies to warn society about this risk to protect people from irreversible \rharm to their health.\r

The prevalence of temporomandibular disorders among medical students
(2023) Yakşi, Elif; Demirel, Adnan; Yaşar, Mustafa Fatih; Kilinç, Serdar; Balci, Muhammed
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) among students at the Abant Izzet Baysal University Medical Faculty in Turkey. Material and Method: Two hundred eleven medical students aged between 18 and 30 were included in the study. The presence and severity of TMD were evaluated using the Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI). Parafunctional habits, bruxism, and orthodontic treatments potentially associated with TMD were investigated. Results: No TMD was determined in 87 (41.2%) of the participants, mild TMD in 82 (38.9%), moderate TMD in 37 (17.5%), and severe TMD in five (2.4%) in the evaluations performed using the FAI. The frequency of TMD was significantly higher in women compared to men (p<0.05). The incidences of parafunctional habits and self-reported bruxism were significantly higher among participants with TMD compared to those with no TMD (p<0.05). The severity of TMD also increased significantly in the presence of parafunctional habits and bruxism (p<0.05). Conclusions: The incidence of TMD among medical students was 59% and female gender, parafunctional habits, and bruxism were found to be associated with the disorders.

A randomized pilot study of electro-acupuncture treatment for hysterosalpingography pain relief and related anxiety
(Galenos Yayıncılık, 2020) Bakacak, Zeyneb; Demirel, Adnan; Bakacak, Murat; Urfalıoğlu, Aykut; Yaylalı, Aslı; Boran, Ömer Faruk; Kaplanoğlu, Mustafa
Objective: To investigate the effect of acupuncture on reducing pain and anxiety related to hysterosalpingography (HSG). Materials and Methods: A total of 107 patients planned to undergo HSG were randomly separated into 3 groups; the acupuncture group (n=36), intramuscular diclofenac sodium group (n=35), arid control group (n=37). In the acupuncture group, electro-acupuncture was applied to specified points for 20 mins before the procedure. In the intramuscular diclofenac sodium group, an intramuscular injection of 75 mg diclofenac sodium was applied 30 mins before the procedure. No analgesics were administered to the patients in the control group before intervention. Pain was evaluated with a Visual Analog scale (VAS) arid anxiety with the State-trait Anxiety inventory -state (STAI-S), preoperatively and at specified times postoperatively. Results: The VAS scores at 1 and 5 minutes after HSG were similar in acupuncture group and intramuscular diclofenac sodium group, and significantly lower than in the control group. At 30 mins postoperatively, there was no significant difference between the 3 groups in respect of the VAS scores. The STAI-S scores at 1 hour preoperatively were similar in all the groups (p=0.563). In the comparisons of the STAI-S values at preoperative 5 mins, following acupuncture in acupuncture group and the diclofenac injection in intramuscular diclofenac sodium group, and at postoperative 30 mins, the acupuncture group values were determined to be statistically significantly lower than those of the other groups (p<0.001, p<0.001). Conclusion: Acupuncture has similar effects on the reduction of pain as other analgesics and reduces anxiety. It can therefore be used in HSG in suitable clinics.

Ölçümler Swan 958 A ölçüm cihazı ile yapılmıştır. 24 saatlik zaman aralığı (Lgag) için elde edilen sonuçlara göre: (1) 75 dB(A) ve üzeri gürültü düzeyinden etkilenen yaklaşık 2,8 km2'lik bir alanda 1.400 hane, 1 okul ve 6.500 hane sakini, (2) 70-74 dB(A) gürültü değer aralığından etkilenen yaklaşık 2,8 km2'lik bir alanda 1.700 hane, 14 okul, 7 hastane ve 8.400 hane sakini, (3) 65-69 dB(A) gürültü değer aralığından etkilenen yaklaşık 4,5 km2'lik bir alanda 2.200 hane, 14 okul, 6 hastane ve 6.700 hane sakini, (3) 60-64 dB(A) gürültü değer aralığından etkilenen yaklaşık 7,3 km2'lik bir alanda 2.600 hane, 30 okul, 8 hastane ve 10.100 hane sakini, (4) 55-59 dB(A) gürültü değer aralığından etkilenen yaklaşık 11 km2'lik bir alanda 5.600 hane, 42 okul, 4 hastane ve 22.700 hane sakini, (5) 50-54 dB(A) gürültü değer aralığından etkilenen yaklaşık 16 km2'lik bir alanda 8.800 hane, 46 okul, 2 hastane ve 35.000 hane sakini bulunmaktadır.
