Öğe The correlation between neuropathic pain incidence and vitamin D levels in patients with chronic low back pain(2019) Ay, Bilgehan Kolutek; Berk, Ejder; Demirel, Adnan; Nancitarhan, VedatAim: The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between neuropathic pain incidence and vitamin D levels in chronicmechanical low back pain.Material and Methods: Sixty patients (36 females, 24 males) with chronic mechanical low back pain (CMLBP) were included in thestudy. Leeds Assessment Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs Scale (LANSS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Visual AnalogueScale (VAS) were applied to the patients. Patient vitamin D levels were measured. Results: It was determined that the neuropathic low back pain incidence was 0.20. No statistically significant difference wasdetermined between the neuropathic pain incidence in the group with subnormal vitamin D values and the group with normal vitaminD values (p = 0.292). The incidence of neuropathic pain was higher in the group with subnormal vitamin D levels when compared tothe group with normal vitamin D values. Conclusion: It was demonstrated that neuropathic low back pain was more frequent among CMLBP patients with subnormal vitaminD values when compared to patients with normal vitamin D levels, albeit not statistically significantly. Vitamin D deficiency shouldbe reviewed in the evaluation of CMLBP, neuropathic component of which was not well defined, and its treatment and managementrequires a multidisciplinary approach, and vitamin D treatment should be considered when necessaryÖğe Investigation of the effect of using Maraşpowder (Nicotiana Rustica) on arterial stiffness by photoplethysmography(2022) Demirel, Adnan; Berk, EjderAim: To evaluate atherosclerosis in Maraşpowder (MP) smokers by measuring pulse wave velocity (PWV) \rusing photoplethysmography.\rMethod: This study was carried out by forming two groups: MP smokers and a healthy control group. All \rparticipants underwent PWV using the photoplethysmography method. Student’s t-test, receiver operating \rcharacteristic curve, and regression analysis were performed on age and PWV data to assess arterial stiffness.\rResults: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of age, but the PWV \rvalues of the MP group were statistically significantly higher than those of the control group. The sensitivity \rand predictability of the cut-off value predicting MP smokers was quite high (100%). A logistic regression \ranalysis to determine the correlation of variables did not yield significant results.\rConclusion: As is the case with cigarette use, the use of MP negatively affects cardiovascular health. It is \rimportant to develop policies and strategies to warn society about this risk to protect people from irreversible \rharm to their health.\r
