Öğe Description of a new species (Eucypris dorlionensis n. sp.) (Ostracoda, Crustacea) from Türkiye and a cladistic analysis of the genus Eucypris(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2024) Batmaz, Filiz; Külköylüoğlu, Okan; Yavuzatmaca, MehmetThis is the first clustering analysis of the 53 species of the genus Eucypris where we used 28 plesiomorphic and apomorphic character states in the Winclada/NONA program. Accordingly, Eucypris dorlionensis n. sp. was clustered within Group 2, in which the new species was clearly separated from the other species of the genus based on the shape of the carapace, presence of fine hair -like setae on the carapace surface, the position of the maximum height of the carapace, and length ratio of terminal claws of the second antenna. Eucypris dorlionensis n. sp. was collected from a trough in Eskisehir province in Turkiye where this is the first new species description of the genus that the number of species of the genus has now increased to 10. Besides, the genus is of cosmopolitan distribution known from a variety of aquatic bodies in the world. Including the new species, the number of the species has now raised to 56.Öğe Determining ecological factors on ostracoda species in Malatya (Turkey)(Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi, 2018) Batmaz, Filiz; Külköylüoğlu, OkanBu çalışma Malatya'daki tatlısu ostrakodları üzerinde etkili olabilecek ekolojik faktörleri belirlemeyi amaçlamıştır. Çalışma sürecinde 3-10 Ağustos 2015 tarihleri arasında Malatya'dan 125 farklı su kütlesinden rastgele örnekleme yapılmıştır. Toplanan 25 tatlısu türünden (Candona neglecta, Cyclocypris ovum, Cypria ophtalmica, Cypridopsis vidua, C. lusatica, Herpetocypris brevicaudata, H. intermedia, Heterocypris incongruens, H. rotundata, H. salina, Ilyocypris bradyi, I. brehmi, I. gibba, I. inermis, Isocypris beauchampi, Limnocythere inopinata, Potamocypris fulva, P. unicaudata, P. variegata, P. villosa, Prionocypris zenkeri, Pseudocandona albicans, Psychrodromus fontinalis, P. olivaceus, Trajancypris clavata) 24 tanesi bölge için yeni kayıttır. Sonuçlara göre geniş ekolojik dağılıma sahip ostracod türleri, optimum değerleri indirgenirken tolerans aralıklarında genişleme eğilimi göstermektedir.Öğe Distribution and relationships of non-marine ostracods (Crustacea, Ostracoda) with water quality variables in Amasya province (Türkiye)(Springer, 2024) Yavuzatmaca, Mehmet; Kulkoyluoglu, Okan; Ataman, Alper; Batmaz, FilizWe assessed the relationships between non-marine ostracods and water quality by collecting samples from 80 randomly selected sites between 18-22 May 2022 in the Amasya province. A total of 28 taxa (18 recent) were recorded from 59 sites, and 25 of them were new for the Amasya province. The most common species were Ilyocypris bradyi, Heterocypris incongruens, and Prionocypris zenkeri. Only 5% of the sampled sites had poor and unsuitable water status. We found ostracods in a range of water conditions, from excellent to unsuitable. Heterocypris salina, along with the most common species, was found in site 41 with unsuitable waters. The Shannon diversity index and abundance of ostracods showed non-linear relationships with the water quality index value (WQI). Although P. zenkeri did not display a linear relationship with WQI, it tended to occur in waters with increasing WQI values, indicating lower water quality. Water temperature and pH were found to be the most influential variables on species distribution, while the number of species indicated positive and negative relationships with chloride and sulphate, respectively. The functional richness values indicated that species in dams had developed swimming setae on the second antennae, while species in streams had reduced setae. The functional evenness values exposed that the functional distance between species in dams and troughs was more regular compared to streams. These results suggest that functional diversity indices can be used to evaluate the function and indicator potential of ostracod species in aquatic systems.Öğe Effective roles of ecological factors on nonmarine Ostracoda (Crustacea) in shallow waters of Malatya (Turkey)(Wiley, 2020) Batmaz, Filiz; Külköylüoğlu, Okan; Akdemir, Derya; Yavuzatmaca, MehmetThis study is aimed to understand effective roles of ecological factors on nonmarine ostracods in Malatya province where 125 different aquatic bodies were randomly sampled during 3-10 August 2015. Totally, 24 of 25 species identified were new reports for the province while Cypridopsis lusatica was a new record for Turkey. The most common species Ilyocypris bradyi was collected from 12 different habitat types. Fifteen species based on their percent similarities among habitat types were clustered into five groups. The first two axes of Canonical Correspondence Analyses explained 66.1% relationship between species and environmental variables. Salinity, water temperature and chloride were found to be the most effective variables on species occurrence. Except chloride and oxidation-reduction potential, there was no significant difference in the mean numbers of environmental variables among the sampling sites with and without species (p < .05). Five most abundant species portrayed the highest ecological tolerance ranges for water temperature. Heterocypris incongruens revealed the highest optimum and tolerance range for dissolved oxygen while Heterocypris salina showed maximum ranges for salinity. Increasing numbers of sampling sites did not increase the percent species numbers per site. Species distribution varied among the habitats. Accordingly, species with swimming ability tend to inhabit more stagnant water bodies while species without such ability were found in flowing waters. This implies that species with good dispersion modes may avoid negative effects of changes in ecological conditions. Thus, our results reveal that biotic factors can also be effective on species as much as abiotic ones.Öğe First usage of ostracod species (Herpetocypris brevicaudata) carapace as a biosorbent with XAD-4 resin to determine Co(II), Cu(II) and Mn(II) trace metal ions(ELSEVIER, 2021) Topuz, Berrin; Batmaz, Filiz; Külköylüoğlu, Okan; Çapraz, ÇağatayPowdered ostracod carapace of the species (Herpetocypris brevicaudata), an invertebrate aquatic crustacean, loaded on Amberlite XAD-4 resin, were tested as a biosorbent to determine concentrations of trace metal ions (Cu (II), Co(II), Mn(II)) in water samples prior to UV-VIS spectrophotometric analyses. Effects of sample pH, volume, type and volume of eluent, matrix interference, and flow rate of sample and eluent were examined to investigate optimum biosorption conditions of the trace metal ions. Optimum pH values for Cu(II), Co(II) and Mn(II) were around 10.0. Metals were desorbed with 1 M HCl (recovery, 90-100% and high precision; SD < 5%). Sorption capacity of AXAD-4 resin loaded with H. brevicaudata was 0.71, 0.23 and 0.64 mmol g(-1) for Cu(II), Co(II) and Mn (II), respectively. Performances of the new sorbent were evaluated using certified reference material (TMDA-70.2 Ontario Lake Water).
