Öğe Comparison of radiopacity of current restorative CAD/CAM blocks with digital radiography(Wiley, 2019) Atala, Mustafa Hayati; Atala, Nagehan; Yeğin, Elif; Bayrak, SevalObjective While the radiopacity of restorative material affects the radiographic diagnosis of the teeth, there is no data about the radiopacity of current restorative computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) materials. Therefore, the present study compared the radiopacity values of current restorative CAD/CAM blocks to facilitate the material choice within such a wide variety of materials. Materials and Methods Specimens were prepared from 13 different restorative CAD/CAM blocks to compare with enamel and dentin. The specimens placed on the occlusal phosphor plate were imaged with aluminum step wedge and tooth section. The radiopacity values were calculated using the Image J program. The radiopacity values of the specimens were converted to mmAl values with the Curve Expert 1.4 program. Results The difference between the radiopacity values of dentin and e.max CAD was not significant, however, they exhibited a significant difference from the other 14 groups (P < .05). Enamel and Obsidien, Suprinity, and Celtra Duo had greater radiopacity values with significant differences from the other 12 materials whereas the difference within these groups was not significant (P > .05). Conclusions The evaluated restorative CAD/CAM materials have significantly different radiopacity values. Among these permanent restoration blocks, the highest radiopacity value was observed in Celtra Duo, the lowest in Block HC.Öğe Dental İmplant Tedavisinde Başarı Faktörlerinin Değerlendirilmesi(2019) Atala, Mustafa Hayati; Ustaoğlu, Gülbahar; Sorkun, Hülya ÇetinAmaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, implant tedavisinde başarının, yaş, cinsiyet, sistemik durum, protetik tedavi çeşidi ve cerrahi teknik ile ilişkisini inceleyerek oluşabilecek başarısızlıkların önüne geçilmesini sağlamaktır. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of two different cleaning agents (Corega and Klorhex 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate) on surface roughness of the denture regarding efficacy of curing procedures. A total of sixty disc-shaped specimens were prepared with two different methods as long and short curing processes. The specimens were divided into subgroups according to the immersion solutions (distilled water, Corega tablet group and Klorhex 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate group) (n=10). The samples were kept in a solution for 8 hours per day during a month. The average Ra-1 (before exposure to the cleanser agent) and Ra-2 (after exposure to the cleanser agent) of each sample was measured. A two-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey test was used for statistical analysis. The solutions significantly increased the Ra values in both acrylic groups (p<0.001). While the effect of the distilled water group was significantly lower than Corega and Klorhex in the long-term curing group (p<0.05), no significant difference was found in the short-term curing group (p>0.05). The long-term curing time is highly effective in decreasing the surface roughness of the acrylic base material.Öğe Effect of different mouthwashes on discoloration of plaque-free tooth surfaces(Mosher & Linder, Inc, 2018) Atala, Mustafa Hayati; Ustaoğlu, Gülbahar; Atala, Nagehan; Yeğin, ElifPurpose: To evaluate the tooth discoloration effect of the daily use protocol of six different mouthrinses. Methods: 70 extracted caries -free central incisors were divided into seven groups (n=10/per group): Group 1: Curasept Anti Discoloration System; Group 2: CB12; Group 3: Listerine Zero; Group 4: Listerine Cool Mint; Group 5: Colgate Plax; Group 6: Kloroben. The teeth were exposed to the mouthrinse for 2 minutes daily for 3 weeks. Color measurement was performed four times: at the beginning of the study, and after 1, 2 and 3 weeks, with a digital spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade Advanced). Color changes (Delta E) were calculated and ANOVA and post hoc Tukey's test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Although there was no statistically significant difference between the Colgate Plax and control groups, both groups had a significant difference from the other groups within all Delta E1, Delta E2 and Delta E3 values.Öğe Effects of Disinfectants on the Dimensional Stability of New-generation Monophasic Impression Materials(2020) Atala, Mustafa Hayati; Çetin, Hülya; Yegin, Elif; Degirmenci, KubraAim: In this study, we aimed to compare the effects of different disinfectants on the dimensional stability of four different monophasic vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) dental impression materials. Materials and Methods: The four materials were used to simulate the master model impression and divided into four groups: Group E: Elite HD; Group H: Hydrorise; Group C: Compress mono; Group V: Variotime. Three study subgroups were planned for each material: the control, spray disinfection, and solution disinfection groups (n=10). Reference points of the specimens were measured every day during 7 days. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey HSD test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Although no statistically significant difference was found between the length values of the materials after both 3 and 7 days (p>0.05), the highest dimensional change was observed in Group E and the lowest dimensional change in Group H, for all subgroups and all time intervals. Discussion and Conclusion: Linear dimensional changes were seen in all groups, but the changes were clinically acceptable and within the ADA specification standards. Although no statistically significant difference was found between the impression materials, the highest dimensional stability was observed in Group H.Öğe Effects of mouthrinses on discoloration of CAD-CAM manufactured restorative materials(Mosher & Linder, Inc, 2019) Atala, Mustafa Hayati; Yeğin, Elif; Atala, Nagehan; Şenlen, Esra; Bağlar, SerdarPurpose: To investigate the in vitro effect of four different mouthrinses on discoloration of popular CAD-CAM blocks. Methods: 40 specimens were prepared and then were divided into five groups (n = 8) for each CAD-CAM block (Vitablocks Mark II, IPS e-max CAD, GC LRF, Enamic, Cerasmart). In total, four different mouthrinses for each group (Listerine Zero, Parodontax, Kloroben, Oral B Pro-Expert) and distilled water for the control group were used. The specimens were immersed in 20 ml solution for 2 minutes, twice a day for 21 days with a 12-hour interval. Color changes were measured with a digital spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade) after 7, 14 and 21 days and specimens were prepared. For statistical analysis, color changes (Delta E) were calculated and Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon tests were used. Results: There was not a significant difference in Delta E1 and Delta E2 values (P> 0.005) while there was a significant one in Delta E3 (P= 0.001) after Bonferroni correction for CAD-CAM materials were carried out as it is independent of the mouthrinse. Listerine Zero brought about the most noticeable color change in all CAD-CAM materials except e.Max after 21 days.Öğe Evaluation of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life Among Dentistry Students(2020) Ustaoğlu, Gülbahar; Atala, Mustafa Hayati; Gümüş, Kerem ÇağlarIntroductıon: Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is an individual's self-perception of how personal oral health affects one?s quality of life and general health. This local study aimed to enlighten the relationship between self-rated oral health, oral health-related quality of life, and oral health self-care behaviors among dental university students.Materials and Methods: A questionnaire was mailed to all participants (n=380), including the Turkish version of 14-item OHIP concerning self-reported oral problems, and oral hygiene habits. The responses to OHIP-14 were chosen among multiple choices, each one response scoring between 0 and 4 points. Self-reported oral problems like decayed teeth, the need for extractions, bleeding gums, dental calculus, malocclusions were evaluated according to their presence or absence. Students were also asked to state daily oral care habits such as usage of dental floss or interdental brush. Results: The highest mean values found in the study, were related to physical pain and psychological discomfort domains of OHIP-14 with the mean values ranging from 1.19 to 0.93. Tooth decay (46.8%) and dental calculus (37.8%) were the most prevalent self-reported dental problems followed by malocclusion (32.1%), and need for extractions for several reasons (23.1%).Diıscussion: The results of our study showed that dental care students were highly knowledgeable and aware about oral care in proportion to the duration of training. Effective dental practice and education also increases the awareness of oral health habits of dental students and affects the quality of life positively.Öğe Evaluation of the effects of finish line type and width on the fracture strength of provisional crowns(Springer, 2021) Karaman, Tahir; Eser, Bekir; Altıntaş, Eyyüp; Atala, Mustafa HayatiThis study aimed to investigate the impacts of finish line type and width on the fracture resistance of provisional crowns, and to determine the suitable type of crown material to use for that purpose. Chamfer and rounded shoulder preparations were done with stainless steel master models with a width of 0.6 mm and 1.0 mm and a total convergence angle of 6 degrees. The provisional crowns were obtained using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) material in the mandibular left first molar. From the obtained molar tooth, a silicon mold was used to obtain the provisional crowns from the CAD/CAM PMMA, bis-acrylic resin, and self-curing composite materials. The lowest fracture strength was found in the bis-acrylic resin group made using the rounded shoulder preparation with a width of 0.6 mm (699 N). The highest fracture strength was found in the CAD/CAM PMMA group made using the rounded shoulder preparation with a width of 1 mm (1339 N). The fracture strength is higher for CAD/CAM PMMA than the other provisional crown materials; thus, it is recommended that this material be used in provisional crown restorations due to its other advantages.Öğe INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT BEVERAGES ON COLOR STABILITY AND WHITENESS OF ADHESIVE RESIN CEMENTS(2020) Degirmenci, Kubra; Atala, Mustafa HayatiObjective: Knowledge about the chemical properties of new introduced resin adhesive cements how can affect esthetic maintenance of indirectrestorations are limited.
