Öğe Banded karyotype features of the Bitlis chromosome race (2n=54) of nannospalax xanthodon (Nordmann, 1840) (Rodentia: Spalacidae) in Türkiye(Inst Zoology, Bas, 2023) Arslan, Atilla; Gözütok, Serdar; Toyran, Kubilay; Yorulmaz, TarkanNannospalax xanthodon has five chromosome races of 2n=54 in Tiirkiye. Until now, only C-banding and Ag-NOR staining analyses of Knikkale specimens of Yozgat chromosome race have been performed. In this study, we presented the karyotype characteristics of the Bitlis chromosome race with C-banding and Ag-NOR staining analyses. The numbers of bi-armed chromosomes in set of this race were found to be nine pairs and the numbers of acrocentric chromosomes were 16 pairs. This result is compatible with data on the previously studied Tatvan specimen. However, the Y chromosome of our specimens is different from that of the Tatvan specimen of this race. The Y chromosome is medium-sized subtelocentric (NFa=70). The dark centromeric C-bands were observed in all bi-armed and some acrocentric autosomes. The X chromosome had a centromeric band, while the Y chromosome was stained C-negative. The active NORs were determined in the telomeric regions of the short arms of two autosomes. The distribution pattern of the centromeric positive C-bands was generally similar between the Bitlis and Yozgat races. However, there were no C-heterochromatic short arms in the Bitlis race. The number and position of active NORs in both races were different.Öğe Comparison of the chromosome banding patterns in three species of social voles (Microtus irani karamani, M-schidlovskii, M-anatolicus) from Turkey(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2016) Arslan, Atilla; Toyran, Kubilay; Gozutok, Serdar; Yorulmaz, Tarkan; Zima, JanThe karyotypes of three species of social voles recently discovered in Turkey (Microtus irani karamani, M. schidlovskii, and M. anatolicus) were investigated. All specimens examined revealed similar karyotypes comprising 60 chromosomes in the diploid complement. All autosomes and the X chromosome were acrocentric. The subtelocentric Y chromosome was recorded in M. anatolicus but it was acrocentric in the other species. Dark C-bands were observed in centromeric/pericentromeric areas of all the acrocentric autosomes. The X chromosome had a centromeric C-positive area and the Y chromosome was completely heterochromatic in all specimens examined. AgNORs were recorded in the pericentromeric region of seven autosome pairs in M. irani karamani, ten autosome pairs in M. schidlovskii, and eight autosome pairs of M. anatolicus. Differences in the NOR distribution between the species were quantified in a neighbor-joining tree. The individuals of M. anatolicus appeared as the basal branch in relation to the derived sister group of M. schidlovskii and M. irani karamani.Öğe Comparison of the chromosome banding patterns in three species of social voles (Microtus irani karamani, M. schidlovskii, M. anatolicus) from Turkey(2016) Arslan, Atilla; Toyran, Kubilay; Gözütok, Serdar; Yorulmaz, Tarkan; Zıma, JanThe karyotypes of three species of social voles recently discovered in Turkey (Microtus irani karamani, M. schidlovskii, andM. anatolicus) were investigated. The karyotypc of the individuals from both localities contained 42 chromosomes and all the chromosomes were bi-armed. The arm number of autosomal chromosomes (NFa) was 80 and the fundamental number of chromosomal arms (FN) was 84. The X chromosome was medium-sized and submetacentric. The Y chromosome of Bitlis specimens was smallest and bi-armed, and the Y chromosome of Gumushane specimens was medium-sized and subtelocentric. All the autosomes and X chromosome of specimens from both localities possessed distinct centromeric or pericentromeric C-positive bands. An interstitial dark C-band was apparent also on the long arm of the submetacentric autosomal pair 4. However, submetacentric autosomal pair 4 was heteromorphic in the Bitlis specimens due to intrachromosomal translocation. The Y chromosome of Gumushane specimens had centromeric C-band and the Y chromosome of Bitlis squirels was entirely euchromatic.Öğe The karyotype of anatolian ground squirrel spermophilus xanthoprymnus (Bennett, 1835) (Rodentia: Sciuridae) from two localities in Anatolia, Turkey(Bulgarska Akademiya na Naukite, 2020) Arslan, Atilla; Toyran, Kubilay; Gözütok, SerdarThe standard karyotype and C-banding characteristics of six specimens of Anatolian Ground Squirrel Spermophilus xanthoprymnus (Bennett, 1835) collected in Gümüşhane Province and Bitlis Province, Turkey.
